Hundreds of volunteers turned out to pick up trash March 31 during River Rescue 2012. This event, organized by Ijams Nature Center and in its 23rd year, is an annual attempt to keep our shorelines and waterways free of trash and debris. Breck, Rusty and I filled garbage bags at Ned McWherter Park and IC King Park. It’s pretty sobering to see the amount of trash discarded. As Stephen Colbert would say, a tip of the hat to folks who give their time to preserve the beauty of this area. A wag of the finger to those who consider our roads, parks and waterways their trash cans.
